Where do the player counts come from?
Steam's own public player-count API, fetched live and cached for a few minutes. Both games in a matchup are sampled in the same window, so the comparison is always fair.
Why do I see different numbers than SteamDB?
Counts change constantly. We cache each game's count for up to ten minutes, so your number can lag the live one slightly — but both sides of a matchup use the same window.
