How trims work
- Find a smithing template in the wild (or duplicate it with 7 diamonds + the matching block).
- At a smithing table, combine: template + your armor piece + a trim material (an ingot, crystal or gem).
- The trim is cosmetic — no stat change — and can be re-trimmed or removed by re-applying.
FAQ
How many armor trims are there?
As of Minecraft 26.2 there are 18 trim patterns (smithing templates) and 11 trim materials — resin joined with the Pale Garden — giving 198 unique trim looks per armor piece, and copper armor can now be trimmed too.
Where do I find smithing templates?
Each pattern comes from a specific structure — Coast from shipwrecks, Ward and Silence from ancient cities, Rib from nether fortresses, Flow and Bolt from trial chambers, and more. This viewer lists the source for every pattern.
Do trims change armor protection?
No — armor trims are purely cosmetic. They change how your armor looks but never its defense, durability or enchantments.
