Convert coordinates between the Overworld and the Nether (8:1) so your portals always link where you want.

Save each portal pair after a conversion. If two saved portals have Nether positions within 16 blocks of each other (the game's Nether-side search radius, ≈128 blocks in the Overworld), you'll get a link-conflict warning here. Portals are stored locally in your browser.

How to use

  1. Stand at your portal (or planned portal site) and note your X and Z from F3 / the debug screen.
  2. Enter them and pick the direction — Overworld → Nether divides by 8, the reverse multiplies by 8.
  3. Build the matching portal at the calculated coordinates. Done — they'll link.

About this tool

The Nether is compressed: one block travelled in the Nether equals eight in the Overworld (horizontally — Y is 1:1). When you enter a portal, the game converts your coordinates by that ratio and searches for an existing portal near the target; if it finds none it creates one, often somewhere inconvenient.

That search radius is what causes "portal hijacking": if two Overworld portals are within roughly 1024 blocks of each other, they can end up sharing one Nether portal. The fix is to calculate the exact Nether coordinates for each Overworld portal (this tool) and manually build the Nether-side portal there.

Manual portal pairs are also the backbone of Nether highways — travel 1,000 blocks in the Nether, exit, and you've covered 8,000 in the Overworld.

FAQ

Why did my portal send me somewhere else?

The game found an existing Nether portal within its search radius of your converted coordinates and used it instead of making a new one. Build a portal at the exact calculated spot to fix the link.

Does the Y coordinate change?

No — Y is not scaled between dimensions. Only X and Z divide/multiply by 8.

How close must linked portals be?

The Nether-side portal should be within about 16 blocks (horizontally) of the calculated point; Overworld-side within about 128. Exact placement is always safest.

Does this work in Bedrock Edition?

Yes — the 8:1 ratio and portal-linking rules are the same in Bedrock and Java.
